*** Log Window ***

- Why do I need to open my log every time I run XMLog?

If you want to have a specific log opened every time XMLog starts select
the "Options/Log Fields, Default Log... menu item and enter the log file
name in the "Default Log File" field.

- I opened demo.log, why don't I see any entries?

The log window only shows the 'currently selected' entries. Since you
haven't done a search yet, no entries have been selected. To select all
log entries choose the 'Select' button and then choose the 'Search' button
without filling in any fields. Check the 'Searching the Log' section in
the help file for more info.

- Is there an easier way to set times or dates rather than creating default
  field settings?

When adding or editing a log entry you can double-click on the Time, Date,
QSL Sent or QSL Received fields. This will set that field to the current
date or time. You can also right-click on the field to display a popup
menu that allows you to set the current date. Check "Help/Display Shortcut
Guide" to see which other fields support double-clicks and right-clicks.

- I've used "Display/Short" to display entries from my log. How can I make
an entry from this list become the current entry in the log window?

After using "Display/Short, Medium or Long" you can double-click on a line
in the list. This will move the main log window to that entry.

This technique also works when you double-click on entries shown by
"Display/Display All Entries for Call", "Awards/Critical QSO Summaries",
or by any report that uses a "one QSO per line" format. You can also
double-click on entries in the QSO list displayed by a Callbook Lookup.

- How can I show entries for previous QSOs for a specific callsign?

  1) Use "Display/Show All Entries for Call" to display a list of QSOs
with calls matching the callsign in the current log entry.

  2) Do a right-click on the callsign field. This will show a popup menu
that includes the last ten QSOs with this station. The popup menu also
includes "Show All Entries for Call" which is a shortcut for the
"Display/Show All Entries for Call" menu item.

  3) Use the "Display/Show QSOs Window" menu item to display a window
that shows a list of QSOs matching the call in the current log entry.
This window is updated whenever the call changes.

  4) The callbook lookup window includes a list of QSOs with the station
that was looked up. You can do a callbook lookups by using the
"DX/Callbook Lookup" menu item, by using the Ctrl+l shortcut, by
double-clicking on the callsign field in the log window, or by
  right-clicking on the callsign field.

  5) You can search the log by using the Select button, filling in the
callsign field, and then using the Search button. Use the scroll bar
to move through the selected entries.

When using methods 1-4 you can double-click on an entry in the list of
QSOs to move the main log window to that entry (assuming you are not
  currently editing an entry).

- How can I search the log for fields that contain words, call fragments,
  etc.

When searching the log you can use "wildcards" to make partial matches
with data in fields. For example =w1* in the call field will match any
call starting with W1. Check the "Searching the Log" section of the help
file for more wildcard examples. This section also shows how to select
entries based on a range of dates or times.

- How can I change the prefix/country if the country "guesser" guesses
  incorrectly.

When adding or editing a log entry, double-clicking on the Prefix or
Country fields will allow you to select the country from the country list.
You can also display this list by right-clicking on the field or by using
the "Edit/Select Country from List" menu item.

- Isn't there an easier way to get into edit mode than having to click on the
  Modify button?

If you want to edit log entries by just clicking on a field rather than
choosing the "Modify" button, select "Options/Log Options" and set "Modify
  Button" off.

*** Packet Window ***

- I've installed my callbook CD and set it up using "Options/Callbook Setup",
how do I look up someone?

You can look up calls from the log or packet window by using "DX/Callbook
Lookup" or by typing Ctrl+L. You can also double-click or right-click
on calls displayed anywhere in the packet window.

- In the packet window the Home and End keys scroll the output. How do I move
the cursor to the start or end of the line being typed?

When typing a line in split-screen mode use control+left-arrow and
control+right-arrow to move to the start or end of the line.
Use control+x to erase the line. Use "Help/Display Shortcut Guide" to
get a list of all the keys used for editing.

- How do I put my TNC in command mode? Typing ESC or Control+C doesn't seem
  to work.

Use the F2 key to send the escape character that puts your TNC in command
mode. To change this character use the "Options/Packet Options" menu item
and set the TNC escape value.

- Are there any other packet window shortcuts?

Check the "Help/Display Shortcut Guide" menu item for shortcuts.

- I used to be able to set my rig frequency/mode but now only the mode gets
  set, what happened?

XMLog always sets VFO A, do you have VFO B selected?

*** Miscellaneous ***

- I've set up my CW port but I can't send my defined messages.

The CW features are linked to the CW Keyboard and the Packet windows.
One of the following windows must be the current window to send CW.

    - The CW Keyboard window
    - The Packet window
    - The Packet Spot Map window (Ctrl+F1...Ctrl+F8)
    - The Packet Spots History window (Ctrl+F1...Ctrl+F8)

- What do I need to do to show zeros with slashes.

Try changing the fonts used for your log and packet windows by using the
"Options/Log Options" and "Options/Packet Options" menu items. Try the
FixedSys and Terminal fonts. If you have loaded the extra fonts for
Internet Explorer available from Microsoft (via the "Windows Update"
feature) you can also try the Andale Mono font. All these fonts are
mono-spaced (non-proportional) so they work well for the packet window
as well as the log window.

- XMLog's CW timing seems choppy, what's the problem?

Some program, a system resource (like a printer driver), or XMLog itself
is using too much of your system resources. Check the CW section in
the readme.txt file for some suggestions.
