Callbooks

Callbook Types

XMLog supports callbook lookups from these sources:

Internet Callbooks - QRZ.COM

QRZ.COM provides the most complete collection of callbook information and usually contains the most up-to-date information for dx-pedition callsigns, etc. However, to use QRZ.COM you must create a user-id and password and start a paid subscription to QRZ.COM's "XML Access" feature.

First go to www.qrz.com and use the "Register" item to create your user-id and password. Once you've logged in to QRZ.COM using this user-id and password choose "Contact/Subscription Services" from the main QRZ.COM page and then subscribe to the "XML data access" feature (or any other package that includes XML access).

After you have created your QRZ.COM user-id and subscribed to "XML data access" return to XMLog and choose the Options/Callbook Setup menu item. Set the callbook type to "QRZ.COM" and set your QRZ.COM user-id and password.

Internet Callbooks - WM7D.NET (US and Canada only)

To use WM7D.NET choose Options/Callbook Setup and set the callbook type to "WM7D.NET". This method only provides information for US and Canadian calls.

Internet Callbooks - HamQTH.COM

To use HamQTH.COM you must first register your callsign with HamQTH and create a password. Go to www.hamqth.com and select "Login" and then select "Register".

After you have registered with HamQTH return to XMLog and choose the Options/Callbook Setup menu item. Set the callbook type to "HamQTH.COM" and set your callsign and password.

CD Callbooks - QRZ

If you want to move the data from your QRZ CD to your hard drive you must first create a folder at the root of a drive named "CALLBK" (e.g. "C:\ CALLBK"). Copy the files CALLBKC.IDX and CALLBKC.DAT from the CALLBK folder on the CD to the CALLBK folder you created on the hard drive. Some older CDs will also need the file NETADDR.QRZ to be moved.

Choose Options/Callbook Setup and set the callbook type to QRZ. If you are going to access data directly from the CD set the callbook location to the drive where the CD will be mounted (D: or E: etc.). If you have copied the data to your hard drive set the callbook location to the folder you've created (e.g. "C:\ CALLBK").

CD Callbooks - Callbook, Inc.

If you want to use the Callbook, Inc. data from your hard drive you have two choices:

Choose Options/Callbook Setup and set the callbook type to Callbook, Inc. If you are going to access data directly from the CD set the callbook location to the drive where the CD will be mounted (D: or E: etc.). If you have copied the data to your hard drive set the callbook location to the first folder you've created (don't include the "DATA" folder, e.g. "C:\RAC" for the examples above).

CD Callbooks - Buckmaster

If you want to move the data from your Buckmaster CD to your hard drive you must first create a folder at the root of a drive named "HAM0" (e.g. "C:\HAM0"). Copy the files COUNTRYS, HAMCALL.IDX and HAMCALL.DAT from the HAM0 folder on the CD to the HAM0 folder you created on the hard drive. If you have any "monthly update" files, you should also copy these .IDX and .DAT files to the HAM0 folder.

Choose Options/Callbook Setup and set the callbook type to Buckmaster. If you are going to access data directly from the CD set the callbook location to the drive where the CD will be mounted (D: or E: etc.). If you have copied the data to your hard drive set the callbook location to the folder you've created (e.g. "C:\HAM0").

Callbook Lookups From the Log Window

There are several ways to do lookups from the Log window:

Log entry fields can automatically be filled with data from the callbook, see the Setting Fields from a Callbook section of Adding Log Entries.

Callbook Lookups From the Packet Windows

To do callbook lookups from the Packet Window, the Spots Map Window, or the Spots History Window:

The Callbook Lookup Window

The Callbook Lookup Window can be displayed by one of the methods described above. This window:

Double-clicking on an entry in the QSO list will move the Log window to this entry.

Callbook Setup - The "Use Callbook for Locations" Option

When XMLog needs to determine the country for a callsign or calculate a heading it can optionally reference a callbook to help determine this information. Before you enable this option here are a few things to consider:

Enabling the Use Callbook for Locations option will cause callbook lookups to automatically occur when:
